THE ESTATE
KLEIN DASBOSCH

The manor is a wide low building of amazing architecture, surrounded by nature and the art of winemaking.
Situated on the banks of the Blaauwklippen river, Klein DasBosch is a small yet tranquil and beautiful estate. Home to Whitey Basson and his family, the manor sprawls before a placid pond replete with ducks and a central island.
Sumptuous vineyards bursting with delicious rich grapes are begging to be picked and made into the finest Klein DasBosch wines.
Klein DasBosch itself only has five hectares of vineyards. The neighbouring farms are Mont Marie, Talana Hill and Vriesenhof.

THE WINES
A RANGE OF VERY FINE WINES

Due to the limited quantity of Klein DasBosch wines, they are only available for sale internationally and in selected restaurants and stores.

Mark Norrish's wine club in Cape Town scored the Merlot at 17.5 and Michael Fridjhon describes it as one of the five best Merlots he has tasted over the last year. Michael described the product as having "concentrated mulberry and plum aromas, opulent textures and ripe tannins, complex, persistent dry finish. The perfect complement to beef, lamb and cheese."

Produced with lots of patience to give you the best of quality, these wines are a must!

THE WINEMAKING
WINEMAKING IS AN ART FORM

Winemaking is an art form of patience, control and creativity. Given raw grapes, a winemaker must after much effort produce a wine which pleases the palate and makes the winemaker proud. From the grape picking to the vats to the bottled wines, winemaking is an art form of the highest order. This art form is appreciated by the senses, taste, colour, feel and fragrance.

Klein DasBosch uses only the finest raw materials, people and processes to bring you wines of unparalleled drinking pleasure.

THE GRAPES

The root stock is of the 101/14 variety and provides a smaller berry with a more intense flavour, and the skin, colour and taste differs.

THE SOIL

The grapes are produced of the Merlot clone 192, cloned on a root of R110. Controlled irrigation ensures high-quality growing conditions.

THE PROCESS

The Bordeaux treatment is used on all the vineyards. Harvest of the grapes occurs in mid-February (summertime) and from there the fermentation of the skins takes 10 days.
The grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation. From here, lactic acid are processed in and the fermentation results in a glycerol yield.
The Barrique vats can each hold 225 litres of fermenting wine and are of the French oak variety. Once this timeless process is complete, Klein DasBosch wines are bottled in elegant, tasteful bottles.

THE WINEMAKER

As winemaking is an art, Jan Boland Coetzee must surely be an artist. Former South African rugby legend turned winemaker extraordinaire – a strange combination if there ever was one – Jan has excelled with his own range of Vriesenhof, Paradyskloof and Talana Hill wines. Now he has turned some of his attention to producing the Klein DasBosch range, and what an amazing feat he has performed.

THE PEOPLE
KLEIN DASBOSCH

Klein DasBosch could hardly have a more experienced and impressive person at its helm. Mr Basson, nicknamed "Whitey", is the managing director of South Africa's largest supermarket chain, Shoprite/Checkers. His leadership skills and demands for excellence drive people around him to new heights and make Klein DasBosch what it is.

To compliment Whitey's influence, Klein DasBosch has one of South Africa's most revered rugby legends turned winemaker, Jan Boland Coetzee. All Klein DasBosch's wines are produced by Jan. With this dynamic and committed duo, Klein DasBosch can hardly fail to produce wines of sheer excellence.

Naturally though, no business – from the smallest cafe to the largest supermarket chain – can survive without dedicated, hard-working people behind the scenes. To this end, Klein DasBosch supports a team of workers bent on helping Whitey and Jan in creating excellent wines.

All in all, Klein DasBosch is a thriving close-knit group with your wine palate in mind.
